In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Troy; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in Michigan are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

Royal Palace has some definite strengths, starting with the people. The service was genuinely friendly, attentive, and welcoming, which made for a pleasant dining experience. The standout dish was the salt and pepper squidโit was crispy, flavorful, and easily the best item we ordered. The dim sum was good as well, though it tasted like it was prepared from frozen rather than made fresh in-house. Unfortunately, the Cantonese-style pan-fried noodles missed the mark. The noodles were covered in a generic brown sauce that lacked the depth, aroma, and savory flavor youโd expect from authentic Cantonese cuisine. Overall, I like Royal Palace because of the excellent customer service and warm hospitality. If youโre looking for friendly people and a casual meal, might want to visit. But if youโre searching for truly authentic Cantonese cooking, this probably wonโt satisfy that craving. It feels more like a place to hit the spot than a destination for traditional Cantonese cuisine.

I have visited this restaurant a couple of times, not very impressive. The food is mediocre, not as good as the family restaurant China Chef across the street. I gave it another try today. It was the worst dining experience. When we walked in, the restaurant was pretty empty, may be only 4 or 5 tables were occupied. It can tell you something. They serve water in the red plastic cups. The water in it tasted greasy. The same taste as our last visit. Don't know if the cups were washed appropriately. The waitress told me , the chef said one of the dishes I ordered will take longer time because they only have 1 chef. We have been patiently waiting for the dish to come out. After more than an hour wait, the waitress came and said that the chef didn't even start to prepare for the dish and will be more than another hour at least. The dish we were waiting for was similar like sweet and sour pork. It is ridiculous to take hours to cook it. They had a group about 10-15 people came in , an hour after we came. The chef pushed us to cancel the only dish we were waiting for, so he can cook for the group for more profits. It is ridiculous. I do not recommend this restaurant because of the hyg

Went there to try out the spicy squid, dim sum and see if it was on par with another restaurant. It was a big disappointment. Itโs nice the have all day dim sum but itโs a little pricy here compared to other restaurant near by.

Our go to Chinese food despite sometimes food can be a bit greasy but flavor is always there. Just gotta order the right food. Dimsum is a hit or miss but usually they are consistent with dumplings and shiu mai. Ambience is nice and clean. They have food for authentic Chinese food and American Chinese food. Have nice large round tables, good to dine with large groups.

While I have heard good things about here and their dim sum menu. I was not impressed. Some items were much higher priced than they should have been. The selection was smaller than China Palace and Shangri-La, and what I ordered wasn't as good. Menu did have a wide choices of other more traditional Chinese dishes and some American Chinese. Some aimed for family group like all the soups being for 4-6 people. Every one in the group did enjoy their food and the amount of dishes were good size. Service was good and the food came out fast. We were even allowed separate checks. Lots of parking available. No fountain drink do diet Coke in a can and I had to ask for a glass of ice. Glad I tried it, but the group agreed we will stick to other places for dim sum and traditional Chinese food.
